What is this website all about?
Click2Copy allows you to send files of arbitrary size from your computer to any other computer connected to the Internet by using only your browser. The files will be sent directly to the receiver, it won't be stored on any servers at any time. Why should I use this service instead of a file hosting service?
There are several advantages of using Click2Copy instead of a file host service. Sharing files through file hosters
requires you to first upload the file and contact the receiver which in turn will then download it. This 2 step process
can considerably extend the total file transfer time. Let's make this clear in a small example:
Consider a scenario where you want to send a file to a friend as quick as possible. You have a maximum upload rate of
100 kb/s and the hoster throttles download speed to 100 kb/s. In fact most file hosters do throttle downoad speed. Assuming it
takes you 30 minutes to upload the file and your friend also needs 30 minutes to download it (as he has the same transfer rate)
it takes one hour in total until your friend has received the file! With our service you upload the file in 30 minutes
directly onto your friend's hard disk, which means you save 30 minutes in comparison to using the file hoster!
Additionally to throttling download speed file hosters impose several restrictions like limited file size and download quantity. At Click2Copy you can send as many arbitrarily sized files as you want.
Also, by storing the file on a unknown server there is a risk of someone getting access to the file, which is a serious issue if the file contains confidential or private data. In contrast to such services at Click2Copy you do not need to upload the files to a server, which considerably reduces the risk of running into privacy issues.
What browser do I need to send files? Are there any special requirements?
The only requirement is that you have the Java plugin installed. If you don't see a file input field on the main page then you don't have Java installed and you need to install it from here. What version of Java do I need and how do I install it?
You need at least Java 2 which is also known as version 1.4.2. The most up to date version can be downloaded from the official Java page.I don't see a file input field. Where can I select the files to be sent?
If you don't see a file input field on the main page then you don't have Java installed and you need to install it from the official Java page. Are the transferred files saved on any servers?
No file content is never saved on any of our servers. How secure is the file transmission?
The transmission is as secure as uploading your pictures to Facebook or your videos to Youtube. No encryption is yet performed but we plan to offer such a service in the future. In the meantime you could password-protect your files if they contain sensitive data. How fast are files transferred?
Our algorithm always tries to send the files with the sender's maximum upload rate. However, if you use other applications which upload data in parallel the maximum upload rate might not always be achieved. Is there a file size limit or any other restriction?
No.Can I close my browser/browser tab while transmitting files?
No, both sender and receiver always need to keep their browser/browser tab open during the file transfer. Though, you could interrupt the file transmission by closing the browser or browser tab and resume it later. If you want to resume the file transfer the sender simply re-sends the same file and the receiver saves it to the same location with the same file name. Resuming can be performed as often as you want. Can I transmit more than one file at once?
By using a second browser window or tab you can send another file in parallel, but sending two files in parallel will take the same time as sending them sequentially. The transmission got interrupted, do I have to restart from the beginning?
No you don't have to. You can resume the transmission by simply resending the same file. The receiver then has to save the "new" file to the same location with the same file name as before and the transmission will continue from the point it got interrupted. Can I pause the file transmission and resume later?
Yes, you can by simply closing the web page and following the instructions stated in before (The transmission got interrupted, do I have to restart from the beginning?) when you want to resume it again.
